Included some best practices in my NIL presentation. For example, hyper community involvement can be beneficial for athletes: “We’ve seen that prove very effective in building relationships with local businesses and result in NIL deals back to the athletes,”. Having a passion for the endorsements themselves is important. The rep for field hockey player, Latie Shanahan says: “I need you to want it as much as you wanted to be a Division I, II, III athlete. I need that same level of compete factor and willingness to work hard in you as a Pliable athlete — just like you want to go compete in your sport.” The amount of work that some brands require will be significant and if the passion is not there, the work required to fulfill contractual requirements will be more difficult for students who already have much on their plate. However, endorsements can provide a valuable platform for the student to build on after college if they do not have ambitions or opportunities to play at a professional level. Shanahan's goal is to one day own a fitness studio in Cape Cod. Shanahan has thus aligned her with partnerships businesses that will in some way support her or build her network in health and fitness so she can meet more people who are going to help her achieve her dream. Be authentic. Choose businesses and brands that align with your interests and values. This will help build your own brand and will demonstrate your value to others in the marketplace.
