With the NCAA Final Four in Cleveland this year, I wanted to address the idea of NIL in connection with tournaments, as well as the idea of inequities within the system.  NIL has had a significant impact on NCAA basketball, especially during the tournaments. Players are now able to profit from their name, image, and likeness through endorsements, sponsorships, and other opportunities. This newfound ability to earn money has attracted top talent to college basketball and changed the dynamics of the sport.  We have seen some high profile deals that have specifically come from participation in the tournaments.

During the tournament, we have seen players leverage their NIL rights to secure partnerships and sponsorships, which has raised their profiles and earning potential. This has also led to debates about fairness and equity among student-athletes, as some players may benefit more than others based on their marketability and connections. Overall, NIL has added a new dimension to the NCAA basketball tournament, giving players more opportunities to capitalize on their success on the court.

When it comes to NIL deals, there are some differences between men's and women's basketball players, mainly due to variations in exposure, fan base, and marketability. As of now, men's basketball players tend to attract larger and more lucrative NIL deals compared to women's basketball players. This is often a result of the higher viewership, media coverage, and fan engagement associated with men's basketball.

Men's basketball players from top programs or those with high visibility and a massive social media following may receive endorsement deals from major brands, sponsorships, and opportunities to collaborate with companies more frequently than women's basketball players. In contrast, women's basketball players, while gaining more opportunities and attention in recent years, may still face challenges in securing the same level of NIL deals as their male counterparts.
