Did some research on topics discussed with St. Edward’s high school athletic director and some of the questions he had about the impact NIL could have if allowed in Ohio high school athletics. He was concerned about the impact on recruiting. The states that have passed NIL for high school have included specific prohibitions for using NIL payments to recruit players. This includes boosters and anyone connected with the school. However, there are high school NIL collectives emerging in response to the changing landscape of amateur athletics. These collectives are designed to help high school athletes navigate the opportunities and challenges associated with monetizing their name, image, and likeness as allowed by current regulations. These collectives may provide resources, guidance, and support to student-athletes looking to capitalize on their personal brand while maintaining compliance with relevant rules and regulations. The concerned would be if individuals who are not directly related to a school through employment or a booster organization could still attempt to use NIL deals to pressure students to attend a particular high school. I could not find a specific instance of a recruiting violation related to NIL in high school . However, there were a number of violations and cases that I found which could signal problems in this changing landscape.
