I utilized the Weebly page to identify alumni who participated in mentorships similar to mine.  I then searched their LinkedIn profile to identify those who have continued to pursue a career in the field I am interested in, being player representation.  I identified five alumni who are currently working in player representation and/or player marketing.  These individuals include Caitlin Aoki, Patrick Collins, Ross Brown, Brett Norton, and Mervin Scott Jr.

LinkedIn is a powerful platform for professional networking and development due to its vast reach and features specifically designed to help individuals and businesses connect, engage, and grow (White & Bottorff, 2024). I found a number of helpful strategies for using LinkedIn to advance professional development.  A LinkedIn profile can serve as an online resume. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the profile looks professional starting with a professional profile picture.  A compelling headline, comprehensive summary, detailed work experience, skills, and endorsements can also improve a profile. Also, it is helpful to include relevant keywords for easy searchability.

Another important tool for use of LinkedIn is to connect with colleagues, professionals in your industry, alumni, recruiters, and others who can help expand a professional network. LinkedIn suggests personalizing connection requests to increase the likelihood of acceptance and start a conversation.  Similarly, it is helpful to consistently engage and remain active on the platform.  This includes liking, commenting, and sharing posts to stay visible in your network's feed. Engage in meaningful conversations, share valuable content, and showcase your expertise to establish credibility. LinkedIn Groups are another way to connect with like-minded professionals, share knowledge, and stay updated on industry trends. Engaging in discussions, asking questions, and contributing valuable insights will help improve visibility and establish relevance within your network.

LinkedIn offers learning courses to enhance skills and knowledge in various domains. Completing courses and adding certifications to your profile can boost your credibility.  Similarly, LinkedIn offers virtual events, webinars, and networking sessions.  Utilize these opportunities to connect with professionals, learn new skills, and stay updated on industry news.

Requesting recommendations from colleagues or supervisors can also strengthen a profile. Consider endorsing others for their skills, and they may reciprocate, enhancing your credibility. Another tool offered by LinkedIn is their job search feature.  You can set up job alerts, follow companies of interest, and leverage your network for referrals.

By implementing these tips and strategies, you can harness the power of LinkedIn to advance your professional development, expand your network, and unlock new opportunities in your career.
